It didn't ruin the movie, but for me it kept the movie from surpassing the first one. In my opinion, it sort of takes away the specialness of those moments, and a lot of the audience was cringing way more than the crowd I saw the first one with. There's a lot more shots that linger as you watch people tear through opponents bodies with knives, shivs, and hammers.īasically, the kind of really violent finishing things that only happened occasionally in the first one, to punctuate scenes, now happen every 15 seconds or so in some fights. But 2 fights in particular stood out in my mind as being violent to the point that it was slightly uncomfortable. It's still a really awesome movie, and there are a lot of fights that don't have that problem. The Raid 2 amps it up in a way that sort of detracts from the fun of the fight scenes, in my opinion. It's probably my favorite action movie of all time. I saw it last night, and I actually agree with the reviewers that the violence is a little much. The score was even better than the first in my eyes. That being said, it doesn't completely ruin the experience, but if you've seen both versions, you'll hate yourself for. The voices are generic, scratchy tough-guy and it sucks all the intensity and emotion out whenever they talk.

But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. Iko Uwais reprising the role of Rama couldn't have done a better job, he showed us the true meaning of what it is to fully engulf himself into a character, the Director (Evans) took us to the darkest parts of Rama himself, he put him in the 7th circle of hell just to show Rama struggling to toe the line between cop and the mindless thug. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. The use of set, and dialog were beyond exceptional. The editing was masterful, it felt like a sensual tease of violence, show us gruesome death in one scene and not letting us see the kill in another. The fight scenes, jesus, never in my life in a film have I found myself hyperventilating, Berandal's fight scenes were even more glorious and nail biting than the first, the fight choreography was absolutely masterful.

The cinematography was breathtaking, every shot had a purpose and each added more tension than the shot which preceded it. The Raid Redemption soared it's way to our top action films of all time, and Berandal broke through every expectation we had going in.
